The new Neenah High School was approved as part of a $114.9 million referendum by District voters in April. The total cost of the high school project is about $155 million with the remaining amount being funded through the annual District operating budget. In June, the District borrowed $99 million toward the project at a 2.00017 percent interest rate, which was well below the projected 4.0-4.5 percent rate. The school will be located along County II on a 220-acre site that was recently annexed to the Village of Fox Crossing.
Subcommittees are developing plans in the areas of operations, technology, classrooms and learning, athletics and recreation, performing arts and sustainability. A core planning team will review the subcommittee recommendation to make final recommendations to the Board of Education. A total of 125 people have been involved in the subcommittee and core planning team meetings.
A planning team has also been formed to discuss the transition of the existing high school into a middle school for grades 7-8 and an intermediate school for grades 5-6. Another planning team will discuss the future of the elementary school structure with Horace Mann Middle School now becoming available as an elementary school.
