Students in ceramics classes at Neenah High School have been busy creating bowls for use at the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser on Sun., Nov. 10 in Oshkosh.
The Empty Bowls event is a community effort to address hunger and food security. The event features signature soups from 20 Oshkosh restaurants along with artisan breads and treats. Patrons can purchase the bowls in addition to their meals with all proceeds going to six area food pantries.
Neenah’s ceramics classes, under the direction of teacher Lisa Dorschner, have been creating hand-coiled bowls and glazing bowls on pottery wheels for the event. In addition, all of the classes conducted a food drive earlier in October and have a display case at Neenah High School detailing their activities. The collected food was donated to the food pantry at Trinity Lutheran Church in Menasha. Student Alexandra Woodburn and her mother, Linda, a special education assistant at Neenah High School, delivered the donations.
Empty Bowls will be held at Becket’s in Oshkosh from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $30 in advance for a meal and a bowl, or $15 for a meal only. At the door, tickets are $35 for a meal and a bowl, or $17 for a meal only.
Advanced tickets for the Empty Bowls fundraiser are available in Oshkosh at Bergman’s Fine Jewelry, Becket’s Restaurant and First Congregational Church.
