A new Safe Routes to School plan was approved and a school resource officer agreement with the City of Neenah was reviewed at the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education meeting on Feb. 7.
The Safe Routes to School plan applies to the new facilities for the 2023-24 school year, including Horace Mann Elementary School, Neenah Middle School and Neenah High School. The plan identifies unusual hazards for students in the boundary area of each school, necessitating transportation for those students.
The school resource officer contract will provide one officer at Neenah Middle School and another to oversee all of the elementary schools. The District will play $80,000 for the first year of the three-year contract, which accounts for reimbursing the city 75 percent of the salaries for the time when school is in session. The contract has already been approved by the City Council and the Board will vote on it at its next meeting on Feb. 21.
A number of new policies were adopted, particularly related to the selection of the Board members and their role and conduct while on the Board. The Board also decided to advance a future agenda item to discuss whether to have Board committees provide reports during full Board meetings.
In personnel moves, hires were approved for educational assistants Michelle Coulman at Washington, Macenzie Hanson at Clayton and Elizabeth VanEngen at the high school. Tullar educational assistant Rachel Schmidt was elevated to a full-time position.
End-of-school year retirements were approved for Andra Mory at Lakeview and Roosevelt, Jill Dujardin at Hoover, Joe Lewis and Debbie Dreher at Horace Mann, Amy Sachs at Lakeview, Roxanne Breden at Shattuck, Laura Hultman at Coolidge and Lakeview, Rachel Hintz at Tullar, Dave Westfahl at the administration building, Patricia Payne at Taft, Tom Hultman at Wilson and Maripat Franke and Robin Grable at the high school. Resignations were approved for help desk technician Nicole Pfotenhauer, effective Feb. 24, and Myra DeWet and Jill Meixl at the high school, effective June 2.
A group of bus drivers attended the meeting and were honored as part of Bus Driver Appreciation Week.
