Proposals for curriculum changes for the 2023-24 school year were presented to the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education at its Nov. 15 meeting.
Many of the proposals were necessary due to the changes in grade structure for the upcoming school year. Included in the proposal is the addition of four-year-old kindergarten and sixth grade programming for the expansion at Alliance Charter Elementary. At the middle school, physical education will participate in a mixed-grade level experience with a two-year spiraling curriculum. A Spanish for Middle School Heritage Learners course has also been added to assist native speakers. Other revisions are proposed in family and consumer education, science and social studies. For the high school, five new courses are being added in physical education. AP Physics 1 is also proposed to complement the current offerings. All of the changes will be voted upon at the next meeting on Dec. 6.
Facilities Director Cale Pulczinski presented an update of summer facilities projects. Some of the major highlights were connecting Clayton to city water and sewer and replacing the water main at Coolidge. The District also implemented a new work order system and energy tracking and auditing software. All fire extinguishers are now code-compliant and new AED’s were purchased District-wide.
In action items, the Board approved hires for Kelley King as an educational assistant at Lakeview and Rebecca Frakes as the District benefits specialist. Resignations were approved for Clayton educational assistant Reagan Pope, effective Nov. 25, and Washington educational assistant Heather Heemstra, effective Dec. 22. An end-of-school year retirement was approved for Lakeview Speech Language Pathologist Jane Hart-Stingle. Policies were also approved for employee nondiscrimination and anti-harassment.
