The Neenah Joint School District will transition to Humana Insurance for 2023 and agreed to sell the Roosevelt Elementary School building to John Bergstrom following action by the Board of Education at its October 18 meeting.
The change to Humana was made necessary when WEA Trust decided to leave the insurance industry. Rates will increase by 6 percent for 2023, however, employees will be able to stay with their healthcare providers with few exceptions. There is no change to the Health Savings Account contribution or the plan options. The District will use Humana’s Go365 wellness plan, which is very similar to the current Vitality program. The District also will continue using Delta Dental with no increase in premiums. Employees will receive an added benefit of orthodontic coverage.
The Board had four offers for the Roosevelt property and voted to accept an offer from Bergstrom for $1 million in cash. The offer is below the asking price of $1.1 million, but it was noted that the offer is the only one without contingencies and the only cash offer. The plan is for Bergstrom to acquire the building on August 1, 2023. Current Roosevelt students will be attending the new Horace Mann Elementary School next fall and Alliance Charter School will relocate to the current Wilson Elementary building.
The Board reviewed a potential sale of 15.7 acres of property on Jacobson Road in Fox Crossing. The property was purchased 50 years ago with the intention of a possible elementary school, but the District will sell it for $450,000. The Board will vote on the sale on November 1.
In other action, the Board approved school calendars for the next three school years through 2026. The Board also approved upgrading the Director of Human Resources position to an Assistant District Administrator position. Dr. Michael Cyrus, who holds the same role in the Minnetonka (Minn.) School District, was approved to the position beginning on November 7.
Other hires included Rebecca Ryan as a Special Education teacher at Shattuck and Izabel Revier as a Family and Consumer Education teacher at the high school. Four Special Education educational assistants were hired with Kim Niedzwieki and Rachel Schmidt being added at Tullar, Amanda Potts being hired at Wilson and Jordan Payne going to Roosevelt. A resignation was approved for Taft educational assistant Lloyd Clark, effective November 11. A retirement for Washington educational assistant Jean Gloudemans was approved, effective December 31. End-of-school year retirements were approved for Catherine Johnson from Taft, Cory Lardinois from Clayton and Roxann Barrow from Spring Road.
In the superintendent’s report, Neenah High School technical education students showed off a race car that they created in their class under the direction of teacher Steve Chovan.
