Neenah Joint School District Mental Health Coordinator Dr. Mike Altekruse presented Youth Risk Behavior Survey data from the past year at the District’s Board of Education meeting on Sept. 6.
Altekruse showed that numbers have not changed greatly since before the pandemic as many have feared. In fact, those contemplating suicide and the number of fights at the high school have slightly decreased, according to the data.
The Board discussed a potential idea of inviting police officers to have lunch every day at District school and reviewed changes to the District’s Responsible Use Policy for technology. The policy did not have any significant changes with the only updates being reflective of current practice. It will be voted upon at the next meeting on Sept. 20.
In action items, the Board approved the hires of Jennifer Kramer as an EL teacher at Shattuck and Horace Mann and Kelsey Mader as Data Clerk and Testing Coordinator at the high school. A contract increase for Wilson 4K educational assistant Alisiah Hug from half-time to full-time was also approved. The resignation of District equity and inclusion coach Michelle Streed was approved.
Two Wisconsin Association of School Boards resolutions were supported by the Board in creating pilot programs for Career and Technical Education programming.
