An update on renovation of the current high school for grades 5-8 and a developer’s agreement with the Village of Fox Crossing to begin construction on the new high school headlined the June 15 Neenah Joint School District Board of Education meeting.
Representatives from Bray Architects provided an update on renovations that are scheduled to begin at the current high school during the summer of 2022. Additionally, administration provided an update on how work has progressed to focus on a middle level campus housing grades 5 through 8 rather than independent intermediate and middle schools. The campus would still be split with grades 5-6 in the Conant building and grades 7-8 in the Armstrong building, but would now be led by a single building principal and consolidate other services such as nursing, counseling and library services.
The developer’s agreement was required by the Village of Fox Crossing before any land development could begin on the new high school site. It stipulates agreements from both sides in regards to road construction and maintenance, easements, water and sewer services and traffic control, among other items.
The final 2020-21 budget was also approved. The District was able to contribute $600,000 to Fund 46 for facility improvements in order to maximize its spending and its state aid for future years through this payment.
New teaching hires were approved for Brittany Macrander as a speech and language pathologist at Washington, Christopher Widi in chemistry at the high school and Michelle Streed as the District’s equity and inclusion instructional coach. Non-certified hires included Heather Strassburg as the administrative assistant in pupil services, Julie Krause as the District office receptionist and Lauren Fox as a phonology educational assistant at Washington.
Immediate resignations were approved for Hoover teacher Colleen Boelkow, high school teacher Dan Putman, Clayton counselor Kelly O’Rourke, Coolidge teacher Christine Butler and Spring Road teacher Jill Weyers. High school career and community outreach coordinator Vicky Fahrbach will resign, effective June 30.
Also approved were board policies for student supervision and welfare as well as the annual legal services contracts and designation of public depositories for school funds.
The next meeting is set for July 20 and will include discussion about the return to school for the fall of 2021.
