Neenah Joint School District staff members who show proof of vaccination will now have the option of whether to wear masks in school buildings following action by the Board of Education at its June 1 meeting.
District staff members who have not been vaccinated or do not wish to provide this information will still be required to wear masks in school buildings. Visitors to buildings still need to wear masks. Students also need to wear masks for summer school unless they show proof of vaccination.
Additionally, changes have been made to quarantine periods based on updated Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Winnebago County Health guidelines. Non-vaccinated students and staff who are deemed in close contact with someone testing positive in the school setting do not need to quarantine unless they have symptoms. Non-vaccinated students who are close contacts with positive cases while engaged in athletic, extra-curricular or music activities must quarantine for 14 days. If any household member shows symptoms, all non-vaccinated students and staff members must quarantine unless the symptomatic person receives a negative PCR test.
The Board also approved student fees for the upcoming year with no changes from previous years. There was discussion about incorporating the yearbook fee into overall student fees so that all students have the opportunity to receive a book, but the Board decided to approve the plan as presented.
Several new hires and resignations were approved. Teaching hires included Jennifer Ahrens in family and consumer education, Stacie Klika in physical education and Keegan de Boer in technology education at Shattuck, Holly Weyers for grade 1 and Paige Frosch for kindergarten at Roosevelt, Joseph Schultz for special education at Taft, Michael Babbits in science at the high school and Nicholas Parmentier in grade 5 at Coolidge. All are certified staff members with resignations effective June 7.

Also, District Director of Curriculum and Instruction Susan Hull was honored for her years of service and retirement at her final Board meeting.
There were no speakers during the open forum portion of the meeting. The next meeting will be held on June 15 at 6 p.m.
