The 2021-22 Employee Policy Manual was unanimously approved by the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education at its April 20 meeting.
The manual was approved as presented with minor changes from the initial reading on April 6. The change that received the most attention at the previous meeting involved language intended for certified staff that have a specified number of extra days to their 191-day contract. The proposal removes the specified number of days and was changed to read “additional days may be required for some certified positions in order to fulfill their job requirements that will not result in additional pay.” It was also noted that regular 191-day certified employees may be asked to attend trainings or complete tasks outside of their regular job duties. This would be voluntary and employees would receive additional pay.
Other significant changes were the addition of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as a paid holiday, the increase of the beginning salary for a first-year teacher to $46,000 and the increase in monetary penalties for staff members who voluntarily break their contract with less than 30-day notice for administrators or non-certified staff members or during the summer for certified staff members.
New administrative hires were approved for Lindsey Lewis as Associate Principal at Neenah High School and Karen Russell as the Prinicpal at Taft. Other hires included Sae Yang as the District’s Equity and Inclusion Coordinator, Jordana Vazquez as a half-time fourth grade teacher at Spring Road and Elizabeth Shinnick as a Chinese teacher. Christina Londo was hired as the registrar at Neenah High School. End-of-year resignations were approved for music teacher Danielle Braun and Taft teacher Courtney Zuehlke. High school teacher Tyler Briney will transfer to a non-certified position in 2021-22 and Lakeview and Coolidge Instructional Library Technology Specialist Crystal Schalliol was granted a one-year leave of absence.
A policy on English language proficiency was also approved and the results of the April 6 election were read. Betsy Ellenberger was honored for her 12 years of service to the Board in her final meeting. It was also the final meeting for Scott Thompson, who was filling a three-month term on the Board after spending the previous 15 years on the Board. New members Kristian Sahr and David Williams will be sworn in to three-year terms at the next meeting. Brian Epley will also begin his second three-year term on May 4.
