Neenah Joint School District employees who have not yet used any or all of their 10 days of Emergency Paid Sick Leave for COVID-19 will be able to do so after the Board of Education extended the plan at its January 19 meeting.
The Department of Labor's Family First Coronavirus Response Act (FFRCA) that required employers to offer emergency leave expired on Dec. 31. The Board plans to offer the extension through June 4, but it could be discontinued earlier if necessary.
The Board also approved new materials for the Human Growth and Development curriculum for kindergarten through grade 5. The approval only updated the materials used in classes as the curriculum and learning objectives did not change.
A plan to allow Neenah Hoops Club teams to use gyms at Shattuck and Horace Mann Middle Schools was approved. Students using the facility will be all Neenah students and will be kept in cohorts to limit exposures.
Several Board policies were adopted, primarily in the areas of nondiscrimination based on the genetic information of the employee, physical exams, transportation, and public requests, suggestions or complaints.
Other approvals included annual adoption of the at-risk plan and open enrollment limits. The Board also approved the 2019-20 financial audit and several Wisconsin Association of School Boards resolutions for this week’s State Education Convention.
Several new hires were approved by the Board. Bree Wilson will teach third grade at Wilson, Jennifer Juneau will be an educational assistant/health aide at Wilson, while Samantha Perez will serve in a similar function at Taft. Danelle Marquardt was hired as an administrative assistant at Neenah High School. Immediate resignations were approved for high school teacher Jessica Nunez and high school health assistant Sarah Ebel. End-of-year retirements were approved for Deb Garbe, Dianne Calcaterra, Myra DeWet, Karen Mueller and Lisa Dohr at the high school, Katherine Weiler at Tullar, Dominic Sollitto at Horace Mann, Dawn Hill at Hoover, Cliff Reitzner at Wilson, and Sarah Anderson and Tim Wichman at District office.
The Board honored Carol Hollar-Zwick for nearly three years as a Board member. Hollar-Zwick submitted her resignation and will move to Madison. It was announced that 15-year Board veteran Scott Thompson has been chosen to fill her seat through April.
It was also announced that four candidates will be on the ballot for three open seats in the April election. Kristian Sahr, Brian Epley, Tamara Hasz and David Williams all submitted nomination papers prior to the Jan. 5 deadline.
