Course, Additions, Deletions and Revisions (CADR) for 2021-22 were adopted by the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education at its Nov. 17 meeting.
The most significant changes in CADR are in math where advanced courses in algebra and geometry are deleted. It will still offer an opportunity for accelerated students to “double up” and take two courses and access the higher-level courses. The new courses are intended to lift all students academically in math, based on research indicating as such. The CADR passed by a 6-3 margin with some Board members disagreeing with the elimination of the advanced math courses. Other Board members approved the changes after reviewing research and speaking with math teachers and students who were overwhelmingly supportive. Several virtual courses are also being added at all secondary levels.
In other action, the Board approved the resignation of Horace Mann educational assistant Katie Weisbrod, effective Dec. 11.
Director of Facilities/Engineer Adam Krieger provided an update of the summer facilities improvements at buildings across the District. Krieger noted that already having Miron Construction at five different schools to remodel entrances and bathrooms as part of referendum funding allowed for completing some additional projects at those schools at a reduced cost. All of the billing is not complete, but the projects are expected to come in under budget.
The Board spent a considerable amount of time discussing the possibility of adding a standing item to the agenda regarding COVID-19 procedures. Some Board members liked the idea that it would offer them a place in the meeting to speak about COVID-related issues that can come up on short notice, while others didn’t think it should be included as a standing item. The Board did not reach a consensus on the discussion.
There were no speakers during the open forum section of the meeting. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Dec. 1 at 6 p.m.
