The Neenah Joint School District Board of Education approved three resolutions to forward to the Wisconsin Assembly at its September 15 meeting.
The resolutions were created in cooperation with the Wisconsin Association of School Boards. One resolution addressed the need for additional state funding for safety and security and legislation to bring appropriate charges against any individual who intentionally conveys a school safety threat. Another resolution asks the legislature for exemptions to the Affordable Care Act in rehiring retired teachers or retired or resigned staff. A final resolution requests targeted and temporary flexibilities in assisting students with special education needs to get back to the level they would have been at had schools not been closed in the spring of 2020.
The Board also approved new rules for student facemasks when the governor’s mask mandate expires on Sept. 27. The new guidelines require all students to wear masks, regardless of age level. Prior to the governor’s order, four-year-old kindergarten and early childhood students were exempted from the District policy.
In other action, Gage Moede was hired as an educational assistant at the high school.
Dr. Pfeiffer provided an update to the school opening during the superintendent’s remarks. In the legislative committee report, Lauri Asbury and Carol Hollar-Zwick noted that they have been attending meetings of local municipalities to gain support for the District’s COVID-19 resolution that was adopted on Sept. 1.
The next meeting is set for Oct. 6 at 6 p.m.
