An initial presentation of the designs of the new Neenah High School consumed the majority of the Sept. 1 Neenah Joint School District Board of Education meeting.
Each of the committee chairs presented some of the designs or ideas in the areas of classroom space, technology, athletics, performing arts, operations and sustanibility. Representatives from Bray Architects and Miron Construction also provided updates. Board members offered their feedback, suggestions and questions about the initial designs. It was noted there will be a community engagement session scheduled for Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. in a virtual format.
The Board approved a resolution calling on governmental leaders and residents from each of the District's municipalities to promote activities to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and keep schools open during the 2020-21 school year.
Hires were approved for Heather VandenZanden as a teacher at Hoover, Sara Klawikowski as a teacher at Alliance, Lauran Buechel as the District accountant, Sandra Zartner as District payroll coordinator, Clark Williams as District carpenter, Makenna Zietz and Lisa Richards-Kolasinski as educational assistants at Coolidge and Alisiah Hug and Lori Tembelis Keulet as educational assistants at Wilson.
Resignations were approved for Spring Road educational assistant Maggie Kilgas and Taft educational assistant Gina Reinert. Coolidge educational assistant Kim Clohessy was granted a one-year leave of absence.
The Board tabled an action item to update grammatical corrections or language to existing Board policies.
Dr. Pfeiffer celebrated the first day of school in the superintendent's report. There were no comments in the open forum section of the meeting.
The next regular meeting is set for Sept. 15 at 6 p.m.
